Robert Martynowski
With back-to-back appearances in the final, the Polish Hussars are one of the toughest teams to face in the championships. After winning the Canadian Cup in 2007, the team showed no sign of slowing down and opened the 2008 tournament with a perfect 4-0 record in the round-robin portion. Rookie Paul Gorz proved to be a valuable addition to the team, scoring a goal and six assists. Playing alongside Gorz on the top line, veteran winger Robert Martynowski had a star performance with four goals and four assists, tied for second in the championships in points. Team captain Stefan Kostuch also found the back of the net often with four goals and three assists. Second-line winger Joshua Douglas provided the team with scoring depth, contributing three goals and a pair of assists.

Israeli Stars of David: Looking for the repeat
Written by Jon Brazzeau
Tuesday, 06 October 2009
If history has taught us anything, the Israeli Stars of David will have a good shot at defending the Canadian Cup. Teams that have won the championship haven’t let the title slip away from their grasp easily. The Irish Shamrocks repeated as champions in 2006 and lost in 2007 to the eventual champions, the Polish Hussars, in the semi-finals. The Hussars made it to the final again in 2008, only to lose to the Stars of David. Many teams won’t make it easy for the Israeli squad as they will be the team to beat this year. With only four round-robin games, every match-up is important. The Israeli team knows this first-hand as they finished just outside the playoffs in 2007 and bounced back with their championship drive in 2008.
