  1. Is there contact in this championship?
No.  This is a non intentional contact hockey championship.  There will be no tolerance for deliberate contact, fighting or racial slurs.

  2. Who are the top teams in this tournament?
Although the Irish Shamrocks have won two consecutive Canadian Cups, any team has the potential of being a top team.  There are no weak teams in their respecitve divisions.

  3. Why is there no Canadian team?
Because we are all Canadians!  This is not about country versus country.  This is about Canadians playing against other Canadians.  If we created a Canadian team then the other players will not be Canadian.

  4. I have a mixed heritage, what team would I play for?
You would be a player with special privileges and can try out for any of those teams. If you do not make the roster of one team, you can try out for the other.

  5. How will the players selected?
Each team, headed by the Head Coach and General Manager will be responsible for the selection of the team roster after a series of try outs and exhibition games leading up to the actual championship in December.

  6. I would love to play in this championship but I do not see my heritage listed as one of the teams. Does this mean I cannot play?
A United World team has been creatd for this specific reason, but it will be played in the B-Pool.  So, register on line.

  7. I am very involved with hockey and would love to organize a team of my own heritage that is not listed as part of the 34 teams. What’s my next step?
Your team application will be very welcomed. Go to the Registration Link on our website and fill out the team rosters. An official of the CMHL will contact you shortly.

  8. I want to play. What do I need to do?
Fill out the “Individual” player form on our website. The Manager or Coach of the team of your heritage will contact you shortly and will provide you with details.

  9. How good do you have to be to play in this championship?
We do not want to discourage anyone from at least a try out or playing in exhibition games. The final roster will be chosen by the coaches.

10. I am 15 years old and I am playing AAA in the GTHL. Can I still play in this championship?
Players must be 18 years and older to play in this championship.

11. I have heard that this championship will introduce new concepts to the game. Can you tell us anything about this?
We are still working out the details, but I can tell you that overtime will be decided with a new and exciting format. It will be 3x3 hockey (not including the goaltenders) with no off-sides rules, no icing, no substitution and no stoppage of play.
Each team is responsible for their own finances and this should be addressed to the Coach or Manager of the team. Costs may vary depending on sponsorship.
A championship Trophy with all the players names engraved on it. A $5,000 donation to a charitable community organization predetermined before the championship begins and more. All players will receive a gift package at the championship.

14. Does Canadian Multicultural Hodkey support the creation of ethnic leagues for kids?
Absolutely not.  The concept is to promote hockey to traditionally non hockey playing communities and we would like to use this format to create role models.  Kids must integrate within our current hockey system.  This is what makes us Canadian.

15. How would you avoid teams from bringing in “ringers” for the championship?
Each team must submit a final roster by a specific date. Players will be given ID cards and each player must sign in before each game.

16. Will the games be televised?
We are still working on it.  Broadcasters are not short on interest but timing of the December tournament has made it difficult for the television stations to broadcast the games.  We are competing against the World Junior Hockey Championships, Rogers Cable has been broadcasting the kids hockey touraments, we are not an national event so this does not fit into a networks mandate.  Yet, as we continue to grow more and more opportunities are arising.

17. Are you not worried about ethnic tensions between some groups?
We have never come across an incident where a Canadian has issues with another Canadian because he is Canadian!
